Darkness Will Swallow You (Coming soon…)
Flux - Us
(Coming soon…)
This page is dedicated to creative research, residencies, thoughts and insights into my practice as a composer and performance maker.
It's a means to document what I've been up to as well as a way to create dialogues about and around my work.
Just crafting some consonants, words here soon.
In a slow and mind-melting attempt to learn Icelandic, I've been spending time studying bragfræði, which is a broad term for traditional poetic structures. It includes strict rules and rhythmic ideas, which is terrific when you first start writing, then becomes a nightmare when you begin to deal with grammar, haha. The text below, 'Lost-æti', is my first attempt at writing a Ljóðstafir, it is the basis for the first choral arrangement in the performance work 'One Collective Breath'.
Thanks to Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir for answering my never-ending questions about grammar and the outlandish exceptions to the rules...
Here is the text: OCB Programme notes

This text was the foundation for my MFA research, which resulted in the work 'One Collective Breath'. It's a reflection on the death of a dear friend and some thoughts about how rehearsing music together creates a unique experience of collective joy. It's finally been published(!!!) and you can find it here: Skemman and here: Rites of Presence 2020
Design is by Helga Dögg Ólafsdóttir for the 2020 LHÍ graduation publication
